Even though<br />people who live in Washington remember him by the<br />"Symbolist Self-Portrait," there are marvelous Tahitian works elsewhere. A favorite of mine is "Woman with a Mango" from the Baltimore Museum of Art.<br />http://www.essentialart.com/sw/Paul_Gauguin_Woman_with_Mango.jpg <br />Notice the color contrast.Julie Schauerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09014109326652755132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5747978374713756400.post-55431877043012115432011-04-15T00:44:16.211-04:002011-04-15T00:44:16.211-04:00My favorite Gauguin's paintings are those made...My favorite Gauguin's paintings are those made in Tahiti, the “Two Tahitian Women” (1899) is one of my favorites. I do agree, he was a master colorist. Some paintings of Tahiti have the ethereal feel of a dream, the pastels, the peacefulness of the colors really transports you to the bliss of a tropical paradise. His wood carvings were amazing and I am very surprised that he is not known for such an achievement. He has very skilled at wood carving. Overall Gauguin was wonderful artist, although I wished he had a more iconic piece other than his self-portraits.Cohinta Goodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02039452262238953514noreply@blogger.com
